Anthropic announced Claude Haiku 5.5 on 7 October 2026 for high-volume, cost-sensitive work such as summaries and classification, with an adjustable effort setting. Model availability does not establish identical allowances in every consumer account.
Choose one well-defined part of the job
Our suggested starting point is a narrow process with explicit inputs and outputs, such as assigning product feedback to predefined themes and reviewing uncategorized cases. Decomposing a larger job can help, but handoff errors and lost information also belong in the evaluation.
Put unit pricing into the full cost
The official table uses different API rates for different prompt lengths, so the lowest tier is not the cost of every request. Record input and output volume, repeated calls, caching and operator review time. These are our proposed accounting items, not a cost test we have performed.
- Prepare public examples covering ordinary and difficult cases.
- Define acceptable results before assessing each output.
- Keep failures, retries and human corrections, then calculate the effort per acceptable result.
- Expand only when quality and handoffs meet the workflow’s requirements.
Separate the model from the application
See Claude for the general assistant and Claude Code for coding workflows. A model release is not a promise that all application entitlements change together. We have not tested paid accounts, cloud platforms or independent benchmarks, and vendor comparisons are not our ranking.
