DeepSeek’s 17 October 2026 update describes V4.1 Flash 1017 on its website, app and API, alongside Search and Fetch APIs. Model inference and retrieval services need separate accounting.
The temporary offer is scoped and dated
The announcement describes temporary free server-side Search and Fetch tool calls for DeepSeek API users in specified coding tools, with billing scheduled to start at 16:00 UTC on 31 October 2026. It does not make all inference or every retrieval use permanently free.
Our suggested update checklist
- List the model and tool endpoints actually used rather than treating one conversation as one billing action.
- Record search, fetch and generation separately, including failures and repeated requests.
- Before the offer ends, review budgets, allowances and configuration against actual request types.
- Compare acceptable results and operator corrections on the same non-sensitive tasks rather than vendor demonstrations alone.
How coding tools fit
Connecting a service does not establish that a coding subscription pays every external model bill. Review the separate entries for CodeBuddy, Claude Code and Codex, then check the configuration you intend to use.
This checklist is our analysis. We have not made API calls, tested paid accounts or independently reproduced vendor benchmarks. This is a dated release analysis; consult current documentation for later pricing and entitlements.
